I think this was my first day all by myself with E'llee! I think I'm catching onto this baby stuff! It's amazing.
I got up before E'llee and got ready for the day. By the time I was showered and dressed and had accomplished a little cleaning E'llee was awake and ready to go. I picked out my favorite outfit of hers that had a warm little jacket with it and got things ready to go for all our travels for the day. I had to remind myself that things take longer when you have a baby vying for your attention. This was something that I think I just got into the rhythm of by the end of the day. It took awhile and will probably be a bit of a transition for me always because I am used to being a solo act.
Yesterday after running Steph around in the morning to appointments E'llee and I took off for our afternoon of fun. We went to New Seasons to pick up some yummy corn, cornbread and ginger. Then headed home for awhile to sit out the big rainstorm prior to going to Sauvie's Island.
I have to tell you I don't think there is anything more soothing and relaxing than giving a baby their bottle. I don't sit! It's just a fact about me. I always want to be accomplishing something with every second of the day. So for me to just sit and give E'llee her bottle is a big change for me. But yesterday I sat there in the kitchen and watched the rainstorm blow through. It was torrential, absolute downpour. I just sat and watched it and afterwards watched the sun come out and enjoyed all the dripping trees and even noticed the spider's web in the tree that was glistening with rain. I had to laugh at myself because this is very un-Deb like. But I enjoyed it.
Once the rain ceased and things had dried up a bit we got ready to go to Sauvie's Island. On the way we got caught in another downpour but fortunately by the time we reached the Pumpkin Farm all was well again.
I strapped E'llee into her carrier and we went and visited all the barn animals and browsed the pumpkins for the perfect first pumpkin. Then we went to the market and bought all sort of fresh veggies and squash and came up with all sorts of ideas of how to prepare things. It was great.
I did learn a thing or two during my day. One is how to unload a car when you're by yourself. You leave the baby in their seat. You then unpack the stuff from the car and set it by the door as well as unlock the door. Then you get the baby out of the car (who is likely still sleeping if you do it right). Take them in and gently place them in a quiet spot. Then you bring in your bags. While putting things away the baby comes awake and starts cooing at you. It's fabulous!
After Sauvie's we just hung out at home. E'llee played contentedly with her toys while I cooked pumpkin, spaghetti squash and made butternut soup. Occasionally she would request some attention and reassurance which was so easy to give.
To end the evening we went to go see my TKD class. My instructor Elaine wanted to meet her so I brought her in and E'llee got to meet everyone there.
Finally we had some dinner and played a little before bed and then fell soundly asleep.
A wonderful day! What more could you ask for?

What a lucky Grandma you are!!!! And what a great picture of E'llie with her first pumpkin.
I agree about the slowing down part - you definitely are learning a lesson or two from Baby Girl. The only thing that would have made the day more perfect was to have spent the day with your Honey also.
